Add Android Authority on Google:
TL;DR
- Google Wallet is adding the ability to scan receipts.
- Google Pay on Chrome for Android can now skip the Payment Request interface when sharing contact details with merchants.
- Google Wallet is also getting clearer merchant names in transaction notifications and a new in-app message center.
Google is adding a handful of useful features to Google Wallet with the latest Play Services update.
The changelog for Google Play Services v26.40 lists four new improvements, the biggest one being the ability to scan receipts directly into Google Wallet. This should make it easier to add and track receipts without entering their details manually. Google hasn’t shared more information about how the feature works or whether it will be available everywhere immediately.
Google is also making a small change to Google Pay on Chrome for Android. When users provide merchants with their name, email address, and phone number, they can now skip the Payment Request interface. This might make checkouts quicker, although Google hasn’t explained exactly how the new option will work.
Meanwhile, Google Wallet transaction notifications should now display improved merchant names, making it easier to identify where a payment was made. The app is also getting an in-app message center, though the changelog doesn’t specify which messages it will include or how it will be organized.
