A ban has been imposed under Section 144 in Punjab on covert recording devices and equipment used for spying. The Punjab Home Department has prohibited the use, purchase, and sale of smart glasses equipped with hidden cameras and recording devices concealed in everyday items. The use of micro-cameras and covert recording devices hidden in glasses, pens, keychains, and other everyday objects will also be prohibited. The ban applies to devices capable of secretly recording and transmitting photographs, videos, and audio. The sale of covert recording devices in shops and through online platforms has been banned across Punjab. No shopkeeper, trader, or distributor will be allowed to sell prohibited covert recording devices. The use of covert recording devices poses risks to citizens’ privacy, sensitive information, and the security of facilities and installations. The purpose of the ban is to protect the dignity, respect, and privacy of citizens, particularly women and children. Laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and terminal devices approved by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have been exempted from the ban. The ban on covert recording devices will remain in effect for 30 days. An official notification has been issued.
