Kevin Garnett has challenged Bam Adebayo to deliver more for the Miami Heat, insisting the centre needs to show greater urgency and produce like a superstar.
Speaking on KG Certified, the NBA Hall of Famer criticised Adebayo’s perceived lack of aggression and made it clear he expects much more from one of Miami’s key players.
The discussion also centred on Adebayo’s partnership with Giannis Antetokounmpo, with Garnett arguing that both stars must take responsibility for setting the tone.
Kevin Garnett demands more points and aggression from Bam Adebayo
Garnett did not hold back when explaining what he wants to see from Adebayo on the court.
“I need Bam to give me superstar energy,” Garnett said on KG Certified. “Trotting down, the cool-looking, nah, I need all out.”
His criticism focused on what he viewed as a lack of urgency. Garnett believes Adebayo must impose himself more consistently rather than appearing comfortable when Miami needs a stronger performance.
The former NBA champion then set out the numbers he expects from the Heat star.
“Thirteen, 15 points ain’t no superstar s***” Garnett said. “I need Bam to be 25 and 12!”
Those figures reflect Garnett’s expectations rather than Adebayo’s current averages. The criticism also raises a wider question about how Miami can get the most from its leading players, particularly given Adebayo’s contributions beyond scoring.
Garnett also challenged the way Adebayo approaches his role alongside Antetokounmpo. He argued that the presence of another major star should not give the Miami centre a reason to take a step back.
“Whose team is this? Is this your team?” Garnett said. “Nah, this is Giannis’ team. Nah, this is y’all’s team together. Bro, nobody was showing superstar energy other than Giannis.”
The emphasis was on both players taking ownership of the team rather than leaving Antetokounmpo to provide the intensity on his own.
Adebayo’s impact cannot be judged on scoring alone, but Garnett wants to see him become more assertive offensively and bring greater energy to the floor.
For Miami, the challenge is clear: Garnett believes its partnership needs both stars playing with authority, and Adebayo is firmly in the spotlight.
