President Trump is once again attacking Republican Sen. John Cornyn (Texas), now saying the lawmaker is not doing enough to support his state’s GOP Senate candidate, Ken Paxton.
He also called out Karl Rove, former President George W. Bush’s White House adviser, for supporting a Democrat in one of the Lone Star State’s down-ballot races.
“John Cornyn, and his Liddle’ Buddy, Super RINO, Karl Rove, are doing everything possible to make it hard for Ken Paxton, the Greatest Attorney General in the History of Texas, and one of the Best in the United States, to win the upcoming Midterm Election against a Radical Left Lunatic,” Trump wrote in a Thursday Truth Social post.
With Trump’s backing, Paxton, Texas’ attorney general, ousted Cornyn in a Republican primary runoff in May.
Since losing the primary, Cornyn has spoken out against the Trump administration and has not campaigned alongside Paxton.
The senior senator from Texas has repeatedly expressed concerns with the state attorney general’s candidacy and its impact on the Republican ticket, given Paxton’s numerous scandals and campaign style.
The president’s Thursday post also railed against state Rep. James Talarico, the Democratic nominee in the Texas Senate race, calling him “the ANTITHESIS of Texas Values.”
“We cannot take a chance on having a FREAKO, sometimes referred to as James TalaFREAKO, as our man in Washington, D.C., representing the magnificent people of the Great State of Texas!” Trump wrote.
Republicans are increasingly nervous about losing the Texas Senate race, as most public polls show Talarico leading — albeit narrowly. Nonpartisan election forecaster Decision Desk HQ, a partner of The Hill, gives Talarico a 56 percent chance of victory.
Trump said in his post that, if Paxton loses in November, it is Rove and Cornyn’s fault.
“If Ken Paxton loses, it will be because of WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Political Hacks like John Cornyn and Karl Rove, who have ineffectively opposed me for my entire political career,” Trump wrote.
Early voting in Texas begins Monday.
