Black Tiger Wilacic FC and Anaka Town Academy FC have won the boys’ and girls’ titles in the 2026 Nwoya Football Mini League, with each champion receiving Shs4 million in prize money.
Black Tiger Wilacic and Anaka Town Academy have emerged as champions of the 2026 Nwoya Football Mini League after winning the boys’ and girls’ finals at Anaka Primary School in Nwoya District.
Black Tiger defeated Eagle Soccer 2-0 in the boys’ final, while Anaka Town Academy beat Eagle Queens 4-0 in a penalty shootout after the girls’ final ended 1-1 in normal time.
The two-day tournament, which concluded on Saturday, brought together 24 clubs, including eight women’s teams, from across Nwoya District.
The competition was organised by TotalEnergies EP Uganda in partnership with the Nwoya District Football Association and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
Both champions received Shs4 million each, alongside trophies, certificates and individual awards. The runners-up, Eagle Soccer FC and Eagle Queens, each took home Shs2 million.
TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Opio Collins, said the tournament was part of the company’s commitment to community development, youth empowerment and social inclusion in communities hosting its Tilenga oil project.
“We are not only drilling oil, we are drilling talent,” Opio said.
The competition also provided a platform for young female footballers to showcase their abilities and challenge barriers that limit girls’ participation in sports.
Pinky Manuela, 19, and Aber Dauphine, 18, who play for Anaka Town Academy, welcomed the victory as an opportunity to advance their ambitions in football.
Dauphine urged parents to support girls interested in sports, while Manuela said she hoped to pursue a professional football career.
Nwoya District LCV Chairperson Patrick Okello Oryema commended TotalEnergies EP Uganda for supporting grassroots football and challenged the company to help the district develop a team capable of competing in the FUFA Big League and the Uganda Premier League.
The mini league forms part of grassroots efforts to identify and nurture football talent, including potential future players for Uganda’s national men’s team, the Cranes, and women’s team, the Crested Cranes.
