What Witnesses Saw at Six Flags Over Georgia
Bystanders described panic as Kariem was flung from his seat on the moving ride. Several witnesses also reported hearing an unsettling clicking noise from the ride's restraint system moments before he was ejected.
Authorities, including the Cobb County Police Department's Major Crimes Unit and Georgia state safety officials, are investigating the circumstances but have not yet confirmed whether a restraint failure played any role in the tragedy.
Following the incident, Six Flags temporarily shut down a number of comparable roller coasters at other parks as a precautionary measure.
The company extended its condolences to Kariem's family and indicated it was cooperating fully with investigators.

Beyond the tragedy, the details of Kariem's life paint a picture of remarkable endurance. He worked at Wesley International Academy, an Atlanta public charter school, where he served as IT manager, technology teacher and robotics coach.
Family members revealed to NBC affiliate WXIA that just three weeks before the Six Flags incident, Kariem was involved in a serious car crash and emerged without injury.
His 10-year-old daughter, who was in the vehicle at the time, also escaped unharmed.
Those close to him further shared that he had battled cancer on two separate occasions, with his most recent bout in 2018, making him a two-time survivor before his life was cut short.
The investigation into what caused the fatal incident remains ongoing, with safety officials yet to release formal findings.
