No. 19 Texas A&M volleyball continued its turnaround Friday night, defeating Georgia in four sets at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens.
The Aggies improved to 12-8 overall and 5-3 in SEC play with the 3-1 victory, handing Georgia its first home loss of the season. Texas A&M won 25-23, 18-25, 25-21 and 25-23 against a Bulldogs team that entered the matchup 14-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
The win also marked the Aggies' second consecutive conference victory after beating Auburn on Sunday. Texas A&M entered the road trip looking to build on that performance before facing No. 4 Kentucky. Georgia had been one of the SEC's strongest teams through the opening weeks of conference play, but the Aggies found ways to overcome the Bulldogs despite being outperformed in several offensive categories.
Texas A&M claimed a close opening set before Georgia responded with a 25-18 victory in the second. The Aggies regained control in the third, hitting .379 while committing just three attacking errors. A&M then closed out another tight set in the fourth to secure the road victory.
Georgia finished with a 56-49 advantage in kills and a .239 hitting percentage compared with Texas A&M's .226. However, the Aggies recorded 11 blocks and nine service aces while committing six fewer attacking errors.
Key players of the game
- Kyndal Stowers: 14 kills, 16 digs, two aces
- Natalie Ring: 13 kills, two aces
- Kaia Castle: Nine kills, seven blocks
- Taryn Morris: Five blocks, seven digs
- Margot Manning: 29 assists
- Gabi Rodriguez: 18 digs, six assists
Stowers recorded another double-double, leading the Aggies in kills while finishing second on the team in digs. Ring contributed 13 kills, while Castle added nine kills and a team-high seven blocks. Manning finished with 29 assists, and Rodriguez led the defensive effort with 18 digs. These balanced contributions helped Texas A&M overcome Georgia's offense and earn a much-needed SEC road win.
The Aggies now face an even bigger challenge Sunday when they travel to Lexington to meet No. 4 Kentucky at noon CT. The match will air nationally on ABC.
