The Madhya Pradesh government may reopen the registration portal for the Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Yojana to allow eligible women who were left out of the scheme to apply for benefits.
Minister of State for Health Narendra Shivaji Patel has indicated that Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has directed officials to assess the number of women who are yet to be included in the scheme, raising hopes of fresh registrations.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Patel said, "Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has spoken about adding the names of women left out of the Ladli Behna Yojana in the near future".
He added that the Chief Minister had instructed officials to determine how many women remained outside the scheme's coverage.
However, the minister did not provide a timeline for reopening the portal. The government has not yet issued an official announcement regarding the registration schedule, application procedure or eligibility requirements for prospective beneficiaries.
If the government decides to resume registrations, eligible women who missed the opportunity to enrol earlier could get another chance to receive financial assistance under the welfare scheme.
The move could extend the scheme's coverage, although the number of additional beneficiaries will become clear only after the assessment is completed.
41st INSTALMENT TO 1.25 CRORE WOMEN
The development comes as the state government continues to disburse financial assistance to existing beneficiaries.
On Wednesday, October 14, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav transferred the 41st instalment of the Ladli Behna Yojana through a single-click transaction during a state-level Ladli Behna conference at Guruwahi village in Umaria district.
The government transferred more than Rs 1,834 crore to the bank accounts of approximately 1.25 crore eligible women under the scheme.
A budget provision of Rs 23,882.81 crore has been allocated for the programme for the 2026-27 financial year.
The Ladli Behna Yojana is a flagship welfare initiative of the Madhya Pradesh government that provides direct financial assistance to eligible women to strengthen their financial security and promote economic independence.
For now, women who could not register earlier will have to await further clarification from the government.
The next steps are likely to depend on the officials' assessment of the number of women left out of the scheme and the subsequent decision on whether to reopen the portal.
