LAWYERS for an alleged Irish cartel boss once based on the Costa del Sol have confirmed they will apply for bail in Dublin while seeking files from a past Spanish investigation.
Daniel Kinahan appeared in person at Dublin’s Special Criminal Court, a three-judge panel that hears serious organised crime and terrorism cases without a jury, on Monday, October 12.
He is charged with a single count of directing the activities of a criminal organisation between October 18, 2015 and April 6, 2017.

His solicitor, Darragh Mackin of Phoenix Law, told the court that a bail application will be made through the High Court in Dublin in due course.
According to The Independent, Mackin also confirmed the defence is seeking full disclosure of files from two separate investigations in Spain and Dubai in which he said Kinahan was ‘acquitted’.
Mackin added that his legal team is looking for an expert to examine the digital evidence and asked for both matters to be factored into the trial timetable.
Prosecuting barrister Dominic McGinn, representing Ireland’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), told the court there is a ‘complex factual matrix’ behind the single charge.
He said a 189-page statement of facts underpinned Kinahan’s extradition from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on August 9, when he was flown back to Ireland on board an Irish government jet following his arrest in Dubai in April.
The prosecutor added that the formal book of evidence should be ready by the time Kinahan returns to court in person on December 21.
Kinahan, who wore a grey suit, a black shirt and black glasses for his third appearance before the court and his second in person, spoke briefly to his solicitor at the end of the hearing before being remanded back into custody.
Before relocating to Dubai in 2016, the suspected gang boss spent years living in Marbella and Estepona on the Costa del Sol, where he co-founded the MTK Marbella boxing gym and was previously targeted by Spanish police during Operation Shovel in May 2010.
