AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday questioned the silence of TVK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay over the arrest of a TVK functionary in Nagapattinam in connection, with “one of the biggest narcotics seizures in Tamil Nadu’s coastal region in recent years.”
Referring to an official release from the Union Ministry of Finance regarding the narcotics seizure in a social media post, Mr. Palaniswami questioned the Chief Minister’s alleged silence in this regard.
“In the erstwhile regime, the seizure of pseudoephederine in the Jaffer Sadiq case had sent shockwaves among the people. In this case involving TVK party functionary Bhoopalan, fully processed meth crystals, weighing around 137 kg and costing about ₹400 crore, have been seized,” Mr. Palaniswami said.
Drawing the Chief Minister’s attention to the fact that the seizure was not by the State police but the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, which comes under the Central government, the AIADMK leader said the government under Mr. Vijay should be ashamed of this incident.
