Kwasi Sibo set for Al-Swehly debut against Espérance in CAF Champions League

Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo is expected to make his first appearance for Libyan club Al-Swehly when they face Tunisia's Espérance Sportive de Tunis in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on Sunday.

Sibo joined Al-Swehly during the summer transfer window but was unavailable for the club's opening-round fixtures. His anticipated debut comes as the Libyan side seek to gain an advantage in their bid to reach the group stage of the 2026-27 competition.

The first leg will kick off at 17:00 GMT, with the return fixture scheduled for Saturday, 24 October, in Tunisia.

Al-Swehly will be hoping to make home advantage count against one of Tunisia's leading clubs as they attempt to advance to the next stage of Africa's premier club competition.

The arrival of Sibo is expected to provide additional experience and quality to the Libyan side as they prepare for the two-legged encounter. The Ghanaian midfielder, who previously played for Spanish club Real Oviedo, could play an important role in Al-Swehly's efforts to overcome their Tunisian opponents.

A positive result on Sunday would strengthen Al-Swehly's position ahead of the return leg, where they will face the challenge of playing away from home.

Espérance, meanwhile, will be aiming to secure a favourable result in Libya to put themselves in a strong position to progress when the two teams meet again in Tunisia.

The tie represents an important test for Al-Swehly, who must navigate the challenge of facing an experienced opponent if they are to move closer to securing a place in the group stage.

Beyond his club commitments, Sibo could also be in contention for a return to the Ghana national team ahead of their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Somalia.

Ghana are scheduled to meet Somalia twice in November, with the first fixture set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars are under pressure to revive their qualifying campaign after losing their opening two matches against Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia.

Those defeats have left Ghana needing improved results in their remaining fixtures to keep their hopes of qualifying for the tournament alive.

Sibo's potential return would offer another option in midfield as the national team prepares for the crucial double-header. His performances for Al-Swehly could provide an opportunity to strengthen his case for inclusion in the squad.

The November matches against Somalia will be particularly important for Ghana as they seek to recover from their disappointing start to the qualifiers.

For now, Sibo's immediate focus will be on establishing himself at Al-Swehly, beginning with the anticipated debut against Espérance. A strong performance could help the Libyan club pursue their continental ambitions while giving the midfielder valuable playing time ahead of the next international window.
