IMPHAL, Oct 22: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has informed the general public that the use of its campus as a bypass or transit route to other destinations by the general public will be strictly prohibited with effect from November 1, 2026.
Access to the campus shall be restricted to authorised persons, including patients, their attendants, doctors, healthcare professionals, staff members and other individuals having legitimate reasons to visit the institute, it said in a statement.
This decision has been taken in view of recent security concerns and reported incidents within the campus, including an alleged attempt on the life of a BDS student, frequent incidents of theft involving RIMS property, and the unauthorised use of open areas within the campus for the consumption of intoxicants and other activities that raise security and safety concerns. The restriction is therefore necessary to strengthen campus security, regulate vehicular movement and maintain a safe and orderly environment conducive to medical education and patient care, RIMS said.
The institute also advised doctors, faculty members, staff and other authorised personnel to carry their valid institutional identity cards and display or produce the requisite vehicle passes, wherever applicable, to facilitate proper verification and authentication by the security personnel at the entry points.
