More than 7,000 girls have been targeted for the Human Papillomavirus vaccination exercise in the Volta Region, scheduled for today, Monday, 19th October to Friday, 23rd October.
The exercise, according to health officials, will cover girls aged between 9 to 14 years who have previously not received the vaccine.
Girls vaccinated during last year's campaign are therefore not included.
Acting Deputy Regional Director in charge of Public Health, Dr. Hectoria Awekeya, during a stakeholder engagement in Ho, said vaccination teams would be deployed to schools and communities to reach eligible girls, including out-of-school girls.
She appealed to parents, caregivers, teachers and community leaders to support the exercise to help protect the girls against HPV infections that can cause cervical cancer.
She also indicated that the early stakeholder engagement is to ensure that every piece of information about the campaign reaches the public ahead of the commencement of the vaccination.
