Colombo, Oct. 15 (Daily Mirror) - Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake was unable to provide a definitive answer on the request to rectify an alleged technical flaw in the presidential pardon granted to Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, following discussions with Buddhist monks who staged a march to the vicinity of the Presidential Secretariat yesterday.
The Maha Sangha, who arrived in Colombo as part of the “Nidhase Paada Yaathraa” (March for Freedom), requested that the alleged technical flaw in the pardon granted to Gnanasara Thera by former President Maithripala Sirisena be rectified.
The monks also sought a clear timeframe for resolving the matter, stating that they were aware that the Presidential Secretary had already discussed the issue with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
However, Dr. Kumanayake said he was unable to provide a definitive response at this stage.
The monks had reportedly sat on the road near the Presidential Secretariat in protest after the Presidential Secretary initially failed to come forward to hold discussions with them.
The march, led by members of the Maha Sangha, reached the vicinity of the Presidential Secretariat yesterday evening, demanding the release of the imprisoned Gnanasara Thera.
