A woman in her 40s has been arrested on suspicion of killing her mother at their home in Seoul's Gangseo District.
Gangseo Police Station said it detained the woman, identified only by her surname initial A, at about 8:40 a.m. on the 22nd on suspicion of murder. She is accused of killing her mother, who was in her 60s, with a weapon at their home in Ujangsan-dong, Gangseo District, earlier that morning.
Police said they were dispatched at about 8:15 a.m. after receiving a call from the suspect, who said she had "done something bad to my stepmother." Officers later received a separate call from the suspect's daughter, who was away from the home and said her mother was saying strange things and that her grandmother was not answering the phone. Police confirmed during questioning that the suspect and the victim were biological mother and daughter, and plan to change the charge to murder of a lineal ascendant.
Investigators have not determined whether the two had any financial disputes or a history of conflict. According to relatives, however, the suspect had often expressed hostility toward the victim, including telling her to leave the home and directing profanity at her.
Police are investigating the exact motive and circumstances of the killing.
