TURA, October 18: The Dopo clan of the Garo community has formed an association to bring its members together and preserve its indigenous heritage, customary laws and traditions.
The Dopo Chra Association was established at the clan’s first general meeting, held at Solace Resort in Selbalgre, West Garo Hills, on Saturday. The meeting brought together clan elders, retired government officials and members from different villages.
The gathering discussed the need for a common platform to strengthen unity among clan members, promote cooperation and ensure that their cultural identity and customary practices are passed on to future generations.
Members also stressed the importance of encouraging younger people to understand and respect their ancestral traditions, particularly at a time when indigenous cultural practices face growing challenges.
The meeting elected Chakjeng Do·po Sangma of West Garo Hills as the association’s first president and Lindias Do·po Sangma of Purakhasia, South West Garo Hills, as general secretary.

Clan elders and other members were also included in the executive body to ensure broad representation. The association will be headquartered in Tura, West Garo Hills.
The members pledged to work collectively to strengthen ties within the clan, uphold their customary laws and safeguard their cultural legacy.
The meeting concluded with a traditional clan feast.
