Morocco has authorized imports of live Brazilian buffaloes intended for slaughter, Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock announced, expanding agricultural trade between the two countries.
The approval comes as Brazil strengthens its position as Morocco’s principal livestock supplier amid efforts to maintain red meat supplies and stabilize domestic prices.
According to Morocco’s Ministry of Agriculture, Brazil accounted for more than 90% of cattle imported for slaughter this year, with 37 companies participating in import operations.
Monthly cattle imports averaged approximately 24,000 head, exceeding 44,000 in June and July before declining to around 17,000 in August and September.
Import applications increased in October following the reopening of the Portuguese market.
Figures from the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association (ABIEC) show Morocco imported 419 tonnes of Brazilian beef through September 2026, compared with more than 4,800 tonnes in 2025.
Imports from some European markets remain restricted because of lumpy skin disease concerns.
