Solidus Labs has a new person in charge of talking to regulators, and he used to be one.
The compliance technology firm announced on October 14, 2026, that Kevin Webb has joined as vice president of policy. His job is to lead the company’s regulatory strategy and engagement, both in the US and internationally.
Webb recently retired after 21 years of federal service, including time at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Department of Justice. For a company whose entire product is helping markets stay on the right side of the rules, hiring someone who helped write them is a fairly logical move.
Who Kevin Webb is, and why Solidus wanted him
During his time at the CFTC, Webb advised congressional committees on how digital asset markets should be structured. He is also described as the principal drafter of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, commonly called the Clarity Act, legislation aimed at bringing structure to how digital assets are regulated in the US.
At Solidus, Webb will run regulatory engagement across jurisdictions. According to the company, his US-focused role complements policy work it already has underway in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe.
What Solidus Labs actually does
Solidus Labs was founded in 2018 by former Goldman Sachs professionals. It builds compliance and market surveillance tools, mostly through a platform called HALO.
HALO uses AI to flag patterns that might point to manipulation, spoofing, or other misconduct across order books. Solidus says it monitors over one trillion events daily across more than 150 markets.
Its client list includes exchanges and broker-dealers operating in digital assets, prediction markets, and tokenized assets.
On October 1, 2026, Solidus announced a collaboration with BTSE covering surveillance of digital assets and tokenized real-world assets. A week earlier, on September 23, 2026, it unveiled a multi-asset surveillance partnership with GTN.
Beyond software, Solidus hosts industry events such as DACOM NYC and publishes research on regulatory trends.
The bigger picture: regulation is now the product
Hiring a former CFTC official to lead policy fits a well-worn pattern in financial services. Banks, exchanges, and fintech firms routinely recruit ex-regulators who understand how agencies think, what they prioritize, and how rulemaking actually unfolds behind the scenes.
What makes Webb notable is his specific connection to digital asset market structure legislation. He was not a generalist who happened to touch crypto files. He worked directly on the framework now shaping how the industry is regulated.
What this means for the industry
For Solidus, the hire is a bet that policy fluency will become a competitive advantage. Surveillance technology is valuable, but it becomes more valuable when the vendor can explain how its tools map onto what regulators expect.
Its recent partnerships with BTSE and GTN both lean into multi-asset and tokenized products. As tokenized real-world assets blur the line between crypto and traditional securities, firms will need surveillance that works across both worlds, along with a clear read on which regulator cares about what.
