“To buy stuff, you can just take a picture of your credit card, drop it in the chat and Grok @Bot will scour the Internet for the best deal on the item you want and order it.”
Elon Musk posted that advice on X on Saturday. On Thursday he added a promise for when Grok Bot gets a purchase wrong or leaks a card: “SpaceX will make you whole.”
Grok Bot is the AI agent that Musk’s AI company, since renamed SpaceXSI, launched in August. It signs into apps and websites and carries out tasks for its users.
A community note, then a Lego order
X users added a community note to the credit card post:
“xAI explicitly warns users not to include personal information in prompts, yet credit card photos may contain such information.”
The note added that Grok Bot’s terms let SpaceXSI store user data and credentials in its cloud. Financial transactions also need human review under those terms.
One user replied that Amazon was blocking the agent. Musk answered that Grok “will find another way to buy stuff.” He said it had just bought him Lego from the Lego website.
On Sunday, he posted again. The post has drawn more than 27 million views.
“I just asked Grok @Bot to research the most fun Lego Star Wars kits for young kids and order them. As easy as that.”
One reply said he had leaked his Grok Bot email, a delivery address and the Lego order number. Musk replied that the address had “already been doxxed multiple times.” He said it is where his security team receives mail.
On Tuesday, Musk posted that the five sets had arrived, Mashable reported. Grok Bot placed the $241.34 order on Lego’s website.
‘SpaceX will make you whole’
On Thursday, an X user said Grok Bot had booked them a flight. They had sent it a photo of their credit card. Musk replied, according to Business Insider:
“This works well. If Grok Bot makes a mistake with a purchase or leaks your card (never happened yet), SpaceX will make you whole.”
He did not say what the pledge covers. SpaceX did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.
SpaceXSI’s terms of service were last updated on 12 October. They say Grok can take “Agentic Actions” for users, including with “financial institutions.” The same section says:
“We are not responsible for User Content or Agentic Actions.”
No free tier
Grok Bot is not on the free plan. Under The X Subscription, which SpaceXSI launched on 12 October, it starts with the $30-a-month Premium tier. SpaceXSI says that tier includes SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, which cost $90 a month combined before. The bundle, first reported by Bloomberg in September, also covers Grok, Cursor and X Premium.
Musk has kept posting about the agent since.
“Never seen anything grow as fast as @Grok @Bot! And there is no free tier, which means people are deriving real value in excess of what they pay.”
