The exchange is paying rewards in XRP to holders of Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin, though the advertised rate is dropping as the program progresses.
Binance is running a promotional campaign that rewards users for holding or depositing RLUSD, Ripple's dollar-pegged stablecoin, with payouts made in XRP rather than cash or stablecoin interest. The advertised annualized rate has been reported at nearly 8%, a figure well above typical savings or deposit yields offered on major exchanges.
The program's total value has been put at approximately $800,000 in XRP, according to reporting on the giveaway. That figure represents the overall size of the incentive pool rather than a guaranteed per-user payout, and actual returns for individual participants will depend on how many users join and how funds are allocated across the promotional period.
A notable detail in the reporting is that the base rate offered to depositors is not fixed. Instead, it is described as declining over time. Promotional yield programs on exchanges commonly use this structure, offering higher returns early to attract initial deposits, then tapering the rate as participation grows or as the promotional budget is drawn down.
RLUSD is Ripple's entry into the stablecoin market, designed to compete with established dollar-pegged tokens such as USDT and USDC. Ripple has positioned RLUSD as a regulated, dollar-backed asset aimed at institutional and retail users who want exposure to stablecoin liquidity while maintaining ties to the broader XRP ecosystem. Binance's decision to support a yield program tied to RLUSD, with rewards denominated in XRP, links the two assets together commercially even though they serve different functions.
For Binance, offering elevated short-term yields on a newer stablecoin is a familiar strategy to build deposit volume and user engagement. Exchanges frequently use these campaigns to deepen liquidity for a token they want to promote, while also encouraging users to hold balances on the platform rather than moving funds elsewhere. Paying rewards in XRP, rather than in RLUSD or another stablecoin, also exposes participants to the price movements of XRP itself, adding a layer of market risk beyond the promotional rate.
The declining base rate is consistent with how many such campaigns are structured industry-wide. Early participants often receive the most favorable terms, with the effective yield shrinking as the program matures or as more capital is deposited against a fixed reward pool. Readers considering such programs should weigh the advertised headline rate against the fact that realized returns can differ significantly once a campaign's dynamics are factored in.
Market Impact
The campaign could temporarily boost demand for RLUSD on Binance, as users seek to capture the higher initial yield before the base rate declines further. Any meaningful increase in RLUSD deposits may also support its usage metrics relative to competing stablecoins, a factor Ripple has emphasized as it builds out RLUSD's market presence.
For XRP, the program creates a modest, exchange-driven demand channel tied to the size of the reward pool rather than organic trading activity. Because the yield is paid in XRP, the practical value received by participants will also fluctuate with XRP's market price, meaning the effective return can diverge from the advertised percentage depending on timing.
The promotion highlights how exchanges continue to use token-denominated yield incentives to drive stablecoin adoption, even as the terms of such offers shift once campaigns get underway.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is RLUSD?
RLUSD is a U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Ripple, created to compete with established stablecoins like USDT and USDC.
Why is Binance paying yield in XRP instead of cash or stablecoins?
Binance appears to be using XRP-denominated rewards to tie the RLUSD promotion to the broader XRP ecosystem, though the exact rationale has not been detailed in reporting.
Why is the advertised rate falling?
Promotional yield programs often start with higher rates to attract early deposits and then taper as more users join or the reward pool is used up, which appears consistent with this campaign.
How large is the total XRP reward pool?
The total incentive pool has been reported at approximately $800,000 worth of XRP, representing the overall program size rather than a guaranteed amount per user.
