KLANG: A window pane installer was charged at the magistrate's court with murdering an Indonesian man last month.
Fauzi Mahya, 36, was accused of murdering Wijaya, who was in his 30s, at 1.20pm on Sept 25 at the roadside along Jalan Shahpadu Lama, Kampung Batu Belah.
Fauzi nodded to indicate that he understood the charge when it was read out to him before magistrate Nor Azilah Mat last Friday.
No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or a jail term of between 30 and 40 years and, if the death penalty is not imposed, at least 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
The court did not grant bail and fixed Jan 12 next year for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Sulfie Abu Hassan prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented.
The victim died on Sept 29.
The suspect was arrested by the roadside along Jalan Harapan in Taman Sungai Kapar Indah.
Investigations found that the suspect had allegedly attacked the victim after suspecting him of having an affair with his wife.
