In a surprising turn of events, Don Bolduc, a former Trump-backed Senate candidate, has endorsed Democrat Chris Pappas in the competitive New Hampshire Senate race. This endorsement comes despite former President Donald Trump’s backing of Republican candidate John Sununu. The race, which is for the seat vacated by retiring Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen, has been closely watched, with recent polls showing Pappas leading Sununu by a narrow margin. The New York Times/Siena poll places Pappas ahead by five percentage points. Market activity appears to reflect this development, suggesting a potential boost to Pappas’s chances in the upcoming election.

Key Takeaways

• Bolduc’s endorsement of Pappas appears to suggest a shift in voter sentiment, possibly affecting the dynamics of the New Hampshire Senate race.
• Current market pricing is supportive of a Democratic victory, consistent with Pappas’s lead in recent polling data.
• The endorsement could indicate broader divisions within the Republican base, potentially influencing the election outcome.

What to Watch

Observers are closely monitoring any further endorsements or shifts in political alliances that could impact the race. The role of national party committees, such as the DSCC and NRSC, in campaign spending and strategy will also be critical. Additionally, upcoming debates and further polling results will be key indicators of how the race might unfold. Any movement in polling that favors Sununu or demonstrates increased Republican turnout could alter current market pricing.
