Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes found himself alongside Tom Brady in the NFL record books once again on Sunday, leading Kansas City to a 22-6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium. But Mahomes has made it clear that he isn’t planning on slowing down anytime soon.
Speaking after the win, Mahomes joked that he seems to match the seven-time Super Bowl champion every time the Chiefs win a game, and he sent a playful warning that he has no intention of stopping.
Mahomes Ties Brady
Sunday’s victory was the 100th of Mahomes’ career, which he reached in his 131st start. That ties Brady as the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 100 regular-season wins.
It’s become a familiar sight this season. Mahomes also tied Brady as the fastest to 98 and 99 wins after victories over the Miami Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders.
Mahomes went 23-of-30 for 272 yards and an interception against the Chargers. The Chiefs improved to 5-0 and remain the only undefeated team in the AFC, while Los Angeles fell to 0-6.
Obviously, the hot start is even more impressive considering that Mahomes is back on the field just nine months after tearing his ACL.
‘I’m gonna keep winning’
Following the game, Mahomes caught up with CBS sideline reporter Melanie Collins and was asked about matching Brady yet again.
“It seems like every time I win a game, I’m tying him [Tom Brady], so I’m gonna keep winning,” Mahomes said, via NFL on CBS.
Mahomes kept the joke going at his postgame press conference.
“I’m like, when did Tom lose another game?” Mahomes said, drawing laughs from reporters, via KSHB’s Dre Bradley. “Because I feel like every game I win, I’m tied.”
That said, it’s pretty clear that the three-time Super Bowl champion made it clear that he has plenty of respect for Brady.
“It’s always an honor to be in any conversation as far as winning football with him,” Mahomes said. “If you can be mentioned in any category with him, it’s special.”
Mahomes will have a chance to grab win No. 101 when the Chiefs visit the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday night. Needless to say, Brady might want to keep an eye on the record books.
