Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath attended a family gathering hosted by Indonesian Ambassador Dewi Gustina Tobing at the Indonesian Embassy in Colombo on October 24 to mark the International Day of Diplomats.
The event brought together members of the diplomatic community in Sri Lanka and their families for a programme featuring sports, games, karaoke and other activities.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Herath highlighted the importance of diplomacy in promoting peace, strengthening international cooperation and fostering mutual understanding among nations.
He said diplomacy was about building bridges, overcoming differences and creating opportunities for dialogue.
The Minister also expressed Sri Lanka’s gratitude to friendly nations and international organisations for their assistance following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, describing their support as a reflection of international solidarity.
Herath acknowledged the important role played by families in supporting diplomats and said diplomatic relationships became stronger when official ties developed into lasting friendships.
