Rajinikanth in ‘Jailer 2’ File Picture
Superstar Rajinikanth has recalled an amusing conversation with actor Mithun Chakraborty before the latter agreed to join the cast of Jailer 2. The Tamil star said that Chakraborty was initially reluctant to play a character who could be beaten up by him on screen.
Speaking at the Jailer 2 Super Show ahead of the film’s release on October 15, Rajinikanth shared an anecdote about Chakraborty’s casting in the sequel.
The superstar said Chakraborty, a close friend, had questioned the nature of his role when the production team approached him for the film. “He is a very good friend of mine. When the production team approached him, he asked what role he would be playing. ‘Am I the villain? Should I take beatings from Rajinikanth? Get lost’.”
Rajinikanth said he later met Chakraborty at the WAVES Summit, where the actor expressed his willingness to be part of the project, subject to certain conditions.
“‘You should neither beat me up nor shoot me’, he said. I said, ‘Let me ask the director and get back’. But I was sure he was just saying it,” Rajinikanth added.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and backed by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Jailer 2 is the sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2023 blockbuster Jailer.
The film features Ramya Krishnan, S J Suryah, Mohanlal, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Chakraborty, among others. Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Hrithik Roshan and Jackie Shroff are also set to appear in cameo roles.
The music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with Vijay Kartik Kannan handling cinematography and R Nirmal overseeing editing.
The story follows Muthuvel Pandian, a retired jailer who is drawn back into a world of violence after his family comes under threat.
