The All Progressives Congress in Kano State has constituted a 155-member Campaign Advisory Council, with Governor Abba Yusuf appointed as chairman, as the party steps up preparations for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.
The council, announced on Tuesday, includes former governors Ibrahim Shekarau and Abdullahi Ganduje, as well as three former military administrators of the state, Habibu Shuaibu, Lawan Jafaru-Isa and Yakubu Bako.
The state APC chairman, Umar Doguwa, said the advisory body comprised prominent party leaders and elected officials expected to provide strategic direction for the party’s campaign preparations.
Also included in the council are Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, and Senators Kawu Sumaila and Rufa’i Hanga.
All APC candidates and members of the House of Representatives from Kano State are also represented on the council.
According to the party, the council would provide strategic oversight for its 2027 operational campaign directorate, whose composition and leadership are expected to be announced later.
The move comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with the APC assembling key figures from the state’s political leadership to coordinate its campaign strategy.
The development follows the Independent National Electoral Commission’s release of its final list of governorship candidates for Kano State, which included Yusuf.
Meanwhile, opposition parties, including the Nigeria Democratic Congress and the African Democratic Congress, have yet to announce their campaign councils.
The NDC is also facing uncertainty over the omission of its governorship candidate, Aminu Gwarzo, from INEC’s list, a development that has raised questions about the party’s participation in the state’s governorship election.
The party is seeking legal and administrative remedies to address the omission as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
