Serie A side Roma picked up a dramatic defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday but Brazilian wing-back Wesley caught the attention of Jose Mourinho during the tie.
Wesley has been a regular for Roma since joining in 2025. Against Real Madrid, he played at right wing-back but has also slotted in comfortably on the left sided berth through the ongoing campaign.
He impressed in the tie and Mourinho pointed out his impact very specifically.
The Portuguese told TNT – via TMW: “I already knew he was a good player, but it was the first time I’d seen him play in that position, and he impressed me even more than thought. He defends very well and then moves forward with great pace. Wesley is a truly excellent player.”
Going up against Vinicius Jr is never an easy task but Mourinho noted that Wesley defended very well against his compatriot.
“He made life difficult for Vinícius in attack and caused us problems in defence.”
The Brazilian was also asked about this praise and he revealed his thoughts about it.
Wesley said: “I’m happy, it’s nice to receive a compliment from a coach like Mourinho.”
“I just prayed and said to myself: ‘I have to stop Vinícius, I have to stop Vinícius.’ I was prepared and I’m happy with my game. I still have to improve in many areas, but I’m satisfied with my individual performance. I still have a lot to improve, but I’m not satisfied with the team’s result, because we deserved to win.”
The Brazil international has already been linked with a host of major clubs and it won’t be a surprise if he gets another big move soon.
