The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has made a major step in the investigations of the killings of city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu and Dr Victoria Mutiso following the manhunt and arrest of a police inspector suspected of having taken part in coordinating the two murders, one year apart.
According to a DCI statement on Saturday, October 24, Police Inspector Kenneth Sang, who had been on the run, was arrested by a team of detectives from DCI Headquarters in Eldoret city in Uasin Gishu County.
Detectives allege that the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation, after getting tips from members of the public.
"A manhunt for a suspect wanted in connection with the murders of prominent Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso has culminated in his arrest, marking a significant breakthrough in the two investigations," DCI stated.

"Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang, who had been on the run, was arrested by a team of detectives from DCI Headquarters following actionable intelligence that led them to Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County," it added.
According to the statement, the police inspector was apprehended along Uganda Road in Eldoret CBD when he was driving a silver Toyota Fielder across the city.
The authorities claim that Sang was in the process of selling the car for his daily upkeep following months of hiding from the police.
Sang's arrest now brings one of the key suspects into police custody after DCI confirmed that he was the only remaining suspect who was at large.
"His arrest brings a key suspect who had remained at large into police custody, marking a significant step forward in the two murder investigations. Detectives are now pursuing further leads to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killings and determine whether other individuals were involved," DCI said.
The arrest came weeks after the DCI linked the two high-profile murders after determining that the main suspects in Dr Mutiso's murder also had interests in the killing of the city lawyer.
Dr Mutiso was shot dead in Upper Hill on July 29, 2026, while Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu was killed one year earlier on September 9, 2025, while driving home from work along Magadi Road, Nairobi, in what the DCI described as a targeted attack.
According to the DCI, the Inspector was allegedly involved in coordinating the operations that led to the murder of Mbobu and also allegedly coordinated liaison with a suspect who is currently in custody.
Besides Inspector Sang, two other police officers, notably constables, are also in custody for the two murders, with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recently approving murder charges for the two, as well as three other main suspects from the same family.
The cases are actively ongoing in court, with investigations into both murders under way, according to the DCI, with detectives pursuing additional leads to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incidents, including the motive, planning, and execution.
