Javad Mahjoub was having a banner night in his new home country of Canada, until the horn signaling the end of the first round sounded.
The hulking Mahjoub looked like he was about to make his mark on the division and the promotion, hurting Joel Faglier early, and knocking him down multiple times in the first round. But Faglier wouldn’t go away, and after surviving the opening stanza, Faglier put away the completely gassed out Mahjoub in Round 2.

After the first round ended, Faglier walked his way back to his corner, while Mahjoub had his hands on his knees, absolutely wiped out. Mahjoub made his way back to the center of the octagon to start the second, but once Faglier started to land — especially to the body — the writing was officially on the wall. Faglier finally ended it with a big right hand, tossing Mahjoub to the ground and landing some ground and pound before referee Marc Goddard stepped in to wave it off.
Faglier improves his record to 7-0 with the win, while his opponent and fellow debutante drops to 5-1.
