KUALA LUMPUR: True love is often said to be worth its weight in gold, but for newlyweds Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Bella Astillah, their fans have taken that sentiment quite literally.
Following the joyous celebration of their recent nuptials, the Muar Member of Parliament and the popular singer-actress were treated to a heartwarming double surprise courtesy of their dedicated fan club, Team Bass Official (TBO).
Beyond showering the couple with warm wishes, the devoted group of supporters marked the union by funding two deeply meaningful initiatives: a bespoke gold family heirloom and a charitable water well in West Africa.
Taking to social media, TBO revealed the touching story behind their choice of wedding present — a custom-crafted 999 fine gold bar intricately engraved with the portraits of Syed Saddiq, Bella, and her two children, Ayden Adrean, 7, and Ara Adreanna, 4.
The fan club shared that considerable thought went into selecting a present that transcended transient material gifts.
"We spent a long time thinking about what would truly be a meaningful present for YB and Bella. We wanted something that was not only beautiful, but could be kept and cherished forever," TBO posted.
Their search eventually led them to Goldfinch, a local jeweller that took on the ambitious task of producing the custom piece.
The elaborate process required the company's proprietor to travel abroad specifically to collect and oversee the custom engraving.
Explaining the symbolic gesture, TBO noted that gold was chosen for its timeless quality.
"We chose gold not for its price tag, but because we hope that, just like gold which retains its value over time, the love and affection within this little family will grow even more precious with the passage of years."
"We imagine that one day, when Ayden and Ara are older, they will look at this carving and know there was once a group of people, bound not by blood but by genuine affection, who rejoiced in their family's happiness," the group added.
A video circulating on social media captured the newlyweds' genuine awe and delight upon unboxing the shimmering keepsake during a recent celebration with their supporters.
TBO confirmed that the tribute was made possible through collective contributions from "BASSties" across diverse backgrounds.
The golden token follows another noble gesture orchestrated by TBO in conjunction with the wedding — the sponsorship of a water well for a village community in Guinea, Africa.
Organised with the assistance of local personality Fila Amir and her Guinean husband, Adama, the water project aims to provide clean, accessible water to villagers in need as a form of wakaf (endowment) in the couple's honour.
In a light-hearted post sharing footage from the remote village, TBO admitted to a humorous misunderstanding when reviewing the initial video sent from the site.
"When we received the clip, we asked Fila why the local lady in the video looked so cross with us," the fan club recounted with a laugh. "Fila reassured us, saying, 'Oh no, she isn't angry at all! She's offering a prayer of gratitude and expressing her heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the well.'"
TBO teasingly apologised for the grainy footage — captured on a field worker's phone — promising to upload a full-length video of the project in due course.
Closing their tribute to the couple, the fan club offered a moving prayer for their future: "Receptions will end, flowers will wither, and guests will depart. But we hope these small memories endure for years to come. May Allah protect your love, bless your household, and shower your family of four with eternal happiness."
