GANGTOK, Oct 12: The Sikkim government has launched a wide-ranging skill training initiative across districts under the World Bank-supported INSPIRES programme, aiming to strengthen employment opportunities for youth and women. Courses are being offered in diverse fields such as solar energy, healthcare, hospitality, digital services, and creative design, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to the Skill Development Department, the programme is structured to enhance employability, foster entrepreneurship, and create sustainable livelihoods by equipping participants with industry-relevant expertise. Training is being conducted through empanelled partners across six priority sectors, including beauty and wellness, tourism and hospitality, IT-ITeS, green jobs, child and elderly care, and creative design.
Officials emphasized that the initiative is designed not only to provide practical skills but also to build resilience in the workforce, ensuring that Sikkim’s youth and women are better prepared to meet the demands of evolving industries.
