Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has urged women traders at Kroo Town Road Market to operate from the facility after its rehabilitation, warning against selling goods outside the market.
Addressing the market women, Aki-Sawyerr said traders would be expected to occupy the rehabilitated facility once the work is complete, emphasizing the need to keep trading activities within the designated market space.
The mayor also highlighted the importance of maintaining the market’s condition, calling on traders to cooperate with the council’s sanitation efforts and take responsibility for keeping the premises clean.
She said the Freetown City Council was ready to work with market users to improve sanitation and waste management, while urging traders to ensure refuse was handled through the appropriate collection arrangements.
Aki-Sawyerr also discussed plans for annual market registration, with market committee leaders expected to help coordinate the process and guide traders.
The engagement comes as rehabilitation work is being undertaken at Kroo Town Road Market. However, the exact completion date and the full details of the contractor’s schedule were not clearly established in the available remarks.
The mayor’s message centered on ensuring that the rehabilitation delivers improved trading conditions while keeping market activities organized and sanitation standards maintained.
