Sub-divisional Magistrate (Sadar) Manik Das on Monday said the administration had provided Rs 1.30 lakh in financial assistance to two tenants affected by a fire incident in Agartala, under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) guidelines.
Das visited the fire-affected site along with other officials and local corporator Shampa Sen to assess the damage and extend government assistance to those affected.
The two tenants, identified as Khokon Saha and Gopal, received Rs 71,500 and Rs 58,500, respectively, taking the total assistance to Rs 1.30 lakh, Das said.
He said the fire broke out on Sunday and the Fire and Emergency Services Department responded promptly. Fire tenders reached the spot, and the blaze was brought under control with the assistance of local people and the efforts of fire service personnel.
“The fire was brought under control immediately with the cooperation of local people and the Fire and Emergency Services Department,” Das said.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established. Das said the administration was awaiting the Fire and Emergency Services Department's report, adding that the blaze was most likely caused by an internal factor. The cause would be confirmed after the report was received, he said.
The fire destroyed belongings at the affected premises, including books and other study materials belonging to a student, Das said.
He said the administration would coordinate with the school concerned to help the affected students obtain replacement books and study materials. The administration would also facilitate the reissue of basic certificates and other documents lost in the fire, he added.
Das said the financial assistance had been provided in accordance with the prescribed SDRF norms.
