Coupang said on the 22nd that it has launched the Coupang WOW Volunteer Corps, made up of its employees.
The corps was created so that employees themselves plan and run volunteer activities and give back to local communities. A steering committee of 18 employees leads the effort, from planning to execution.
The group held its first activity on the 21st in the Guui-dong area of Seoul's Gwangjin District, including plogging. About 40 people took part, among them Chang Young-chul, executive vice president of Coupang's corporate social responsibility office, steering committee members, volunteers and officials from the office.
Coupang said it plans to carry out regular volunteer activities following the launch. "We will continue our volunteer work so that employees can keep giving back alongside local communities," an official at Coupang's corporate social responsibility office said.
