KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has questioned Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli's claims that he received RM9.5 million from businessman Victor Chin to resolve a corporate mafia issue.
Ramanan said it had been seven months since the allegation was made, but Rafizi had yet to present any evidence.
He also criticised Rafizi for allegedly making unsubstantiated statements and subsequently seeking public donations to cover legal costs after losing court cases.
"I have not taken any action so far. After losing in court, he collects donations from the public, asking them to help him avoid bankruptcy.
"So, if you want me to sue him, who am I suing? Who would I be burdening? I would be burdening the public if I sued him," he said on the sidelines of the Human Resources Ministry staff appreciation ceremony.
Ramanan was responding to Rafizi's remarks two days ago that he had yet to receive a letter of demand from Ramanan over the alleged RM9.5 million payment.
Ramanan said the main issue was not whether legal action would be taken, but whether Rafizi could substantiate his allegations.
"Does he have even one piece of evidence? Where is it? That is why I called him a serial liar.
"He makes claims without evidence or facts, then asks the public to defend him. Who does that?" he said.
Ramanan also said he had served the public without drawing a salary or other allowances.
"I am not involved in dirty politics like Rafizi.
"I did not want to respond to this issue, but as a party vice-president, I have to, especially since the party president has also addressed it," he said.
