KUALA LUMPUR: Senior men's doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik defeated compatriots Aaron Tai-Yap Roy King 21-18, 21-11 to reach the Denmark Open quarter-finals today.
The all-Malaysian last-16 clash at the SJF Bank Arena in Odense saw the top-ranked pair assert their dominance over their younger national teammates.
Aaron Tai-Roy King entered the match on the back of a Super 500 Arctic Open title on Sunday, but Aaron Chia-Wooi Yik held firm to safeguard their status as Malaysia's No. 1 pair.
Resuming their partnership on a permanent basis following a brief split, Aaron Chia-Wooi Yik will face either China's Hu Ke Yuan-Ren Xiang Yi or Japan's Hiroki Okamura-Kyohei Yamashita on Friday for a spot in the semi-finals.
Malaysia are guaranteed another quarter-final spot as world No. 6 Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani play compatriots Chia Wei Jie-Teo Ee Yi later today.
