VANCOUVER – Lucas Raymond scored twice and contributed an assist and the Detroit Red Wings downed the beleaguered Vancouver Canucks 5-2 on Thursday.
The result stretched Vancouver’s losing skid to nine games, with the Canucks (2-9-1) earning a single point across the stretch.
William Wallinder, Michael Rasmussen and Emmitt Finnie also scored for the Red Wings (4-3-3), while Victor Arvidsson and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard each had a pair of helpers.
John Gibson stopped four of the five shots he faced in the Detroit net before leaving the game with an upper-body injury. He was replaced by Michal Postava to start the third period and the Czech netminder logged seven stops in his NHL debut.
The Canucks got a goal and an assist from Jonathan Lekkerimaki, and Elias Pettersson scored his fourth of the season on a first-period power play.
Vancouver goalie Kevin Lankinen struggled early, giving up three goals in the first nine minutes of the game. He finished with 26 saves.
The Red Wings have recorded points in six straight games (3-0-3).
Takeaways
Canucks: Went nearly two full periods without registering a shot on goal. After Pettersson scored at the 7:02 mark of the first, Vancouver did not challenge a Detroit netminder until Jake DeBrusk snapped a shot on net six minutes and 16 seconds into the third.
Red Wings: Called Postava up from the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapid Griffins on Thursday morning after Danil Tarasov picked up an undisclosed injury in practice on Wednesday.
Key moment
After Albert Johansson blasted a shot from the blue line, Raymond got his stick between his legs to redirect the puck between Lankinen and the post to open the scoring at 4:18 of the first period.

The Canucks had 17 giveaways across the game while the Red Wings logged six.
