Abu Dhabi – The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment announced on Friday that the country's technical monitoring and environmental assessment system detected marine pollution resulting from an oil spill from a tanker, the effects of which have reached the beaches of the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain.
The Ministry explained that the oil spill produced odors noticed by residents of the Emirates of Sharjah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain, noting that it poses no health risks or concerns to the population.
Upon detecting the pollution, specialized teams, in coordination with relevant authorities, immediately began taking the necessary measures to contain the pollution and cordon off the affected areas. Cleanup and treatment operations have commenced to mitigate its environmental impact, while surveys continue as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the marine environment.
As part of the precautionary measures, the Ministry has temporarily closed all beaches and coastal areas in the emirate until the work is completed and the necessary procedures are determined.
The ministry urged fishermen and seafarers to adhere to the instructions and refrain from fishing in the affected areas. It also called on the public to obtain information from official channels and avoid spreading rumors, emphasizing its commitment to keeping the public informed of developments as they occur.
