Sacha Fenestraz has confirmed that he will fulfill one of his great dreams: getting behind the wheel of a Ferrari Formula 1 car. The Franco-Argentine driver, who joined the Scuderia in July of this year as a simulator and development driver, has revealed that the Maranello team has already assured him of a 2027 test. In his own words, it's the icing on the cake of a career built on effort and versatility.
"The truth is that it is a dream to be able to work there, and it is a dream to be with such an important name in motorsport. The work is great; it's a bit like what I did with Mercedes in Brackley, only now I can eat good pasta in Italy and drive a Ferrari Formula 1 car in the simulator and potentially do a couple of tests next year too, so it's a great opportunity," Fenestraz declared during the Singapore Grand Prix week.
Ferrari Bring Final Major Upgrade of 2026 to United States Grand PrixThe Scuderia introduces a new floor, sidepods and bodywork on the SF-26 to expand its performance window. After the United States GP, it will freeze major aerodynamic development and focus all its resources on next year's car.The 26-year-old driver arrived at Ferrari after spending three seasons at Mercedes performing similar functions in the simulator. His incorporation into Maranello meant a new chapter in his career, in which he has combined his work in the simulator with his participation in categories such as Super Formula, Super GT, and Formula E; now, the opportunity to test a real Scuderia car represents one more step in his integration and in his ability to contribute to the team's development.
Fenestraz confirmed that the test is already agreed, though the exact date is not yet set: "I am going to have a test next year; I already know it, and they confirmed it to me," he revealed. The driver also explained that he had initially planned to attend an activity last week, but his sporting commitments prevented him from going, as he was contesting the Super GT race at Autopolis. Ferrari has not publicly specified whether the test will be carried out under the Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) program, which allows teams to organize private sessions with cars from previous seasons, or as part of a specific day for rookie drivers.
F1 Daily: Verstappen's New Race Engineer, Antonelli's Title Shot, and MoreMax Verstappen might be working with a new race engineer in the upcoming United States Grand Prix.Beyond the excitement of driving a Ferrari, Fenestraz made clear that the main objective of these sessions is to improve his contribution to the team from the simulator; driving a real car allows simulator drivers to better understand its behavior on track and relate the sensations behind the wheel to the data and responses that the virtual systems reproduce. That experience can be fundamental to perfecting the development work and the correlation between the simulator and the real car: "I am looking forward to it, but obviously the most important thing for them is that I get in the car to improve my performance in the simulator. All simulator drivers have to get behind the wheel of a TPC car to acquire experience in a Formula 1 car so I will simply have to wait for that day to come", he explained.
At 26 years old, Fenestraz faces a new stage at Ferrari with the illusion of a debutant and the experience of a professional who has traveled a long road in motorsport. His test with the Italian car in 2027 will be an opportunity to demonstrate his worth and to continue growing in a team that trusts his work.
The dream of driving a Ferrari is increasingly closer to becoming a reality.
