President Trump on Sunday endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as he seeks another term less than a week before Israel holds its elections.
Trump directed a Truth Social post to “the Great People of Israel” and called “Bibi” Netanyahu “a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran, with its 51 year old chant, ‘Death to Israel, Death to America! We will destroy the Little Satan and the Big Satan.'”
“If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so,” Trump continued. “Bibi Netanyahu has been Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel, itself. Despite all of that, he has endured and, in fact, he has thrived!”
The president called Netanyahu “the kind of Partner that the United States of America is demanding of Israel, a Country for which it has done so much.”
“Please let this letter serve to represent my Complete and Total Endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming Race for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Israel,” he wrote. “BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
Netanyahu was first elected Israel’s prime minister in 1996, returning to power in 2009, 10 years after he lost the executive role to former Prime Minister Ehud Barak. He was briefly ousted from power again in 2021 before he was reelected in 2022.
The prime minister, a long-time U.S. ally, has faced allegations of corruption and in 2019 was indicted on fraud and bribery charges. He requested a pardon from Israeli President Isaac Herzog after the charges went to trial, which Herzog denied.
Netanyahu has also faced allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the aftermath of Israel’s military operation in Gaza following the Hamas-led terror attack on Oct. 7, 2023, which killed roughly 1,200 Israelis. The ensuing Israeli attacks have killed or led to the deaths of over 74,000 Palestinians in the territory, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
Netanyahu has denied the charges in connection with the corruption trial and has denied allegations made over his handling of the Israel-Hamas war.
