Kohima, Oct 16: The 10th edition of the Capt N Kengurüse, MVC Memorial Football Tournament will be held at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima from November 2 to 9, 2026, with the Indian Army and Assam Rifles organising the event to honour the bravery and sacrifice of the Mahavir Chakra awardee.
The tournament’s official poster, mascot and theme song were unveiled at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, on Friday, October 16. The college was the alma mater of Captain Neikezhakuo Kengurüse.
This year’s tournament will be held under the theme “One State, One Game, One Goal” and the slogan “Raw, Rugged, Relentless”, highlighting football’s role in promoting unity, discipline, sportsmanship and patriotism among young people.
The release ceremony featured a video presentation on Captain Kengurüse’s life and legacy, followed by the unveiling of the tournament poster and mascot and the release of the theme song. His parents and other dignitaries were also felicitated during the programme.
Captain Neikezhakuo Kengurüse, who served with the 2nd Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles, was posthumously awarded the Mahavir Chakra, India’s second-highest wartime gallantry award, for his exceptional bravery during Operation Vijay in the 1999 Kargil War.
Organised annually by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, the memorial tournament has grown into a prominent sporting event in Nagaland, providing district and club teams with a platform to showcase their talent.
