Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Samarkand is once again emerging as a centre of global trade, highlighting Washington’s interest in expanding economic cooperation with Uzbekistan and the participation of American companies in business talks across the region.
In a video message posted on his account on X, Rubio said hundreds of US companies had travelled to Central Asia to conclude deals and build long-term partnerships.
“Few places on Earth have historically played as important a role in global trade as Samarkand. It is a great honour for me to be here today in this beautiful complex, not only to reflect on history, but also to consider the opportunities that lie ahead,” the secretary of state said.
He noted that the United States sees significant potential for cooperation with Uzbekistan in trade, science, technology and other fields. According to Rubio, American businesses are interested in concluding deals and developing partnerships that will bring mutual benefits to both countries, the region and the United States.
Rubio also emphasised Samarkand’s historical importance as a crossroads of trade. For many centuries, he said, the city was part of international trade routes, and the United States now intends to take part in developing its trade potential.
“For many centuries, global trade passed through Samarkand. Today, it is returning here, and we want to be an active participant. We look forward to further developing this partnership,” the secretary of state said.
