An expert committee will be appointed to inspect irregularities in land acquisition and potential hazards related to the service road of the under-construction Polayathode railway overbridge.
The decision was taken during a meeting held after a site visit led by N.K. Premachandran, MP, MLA Vishnu Mohan, Mayor A.K. Hafeez, and District Collector Anie Jula Thomas on Friday (October 23). The move comes in response to a petition submitted by an action council highlighting that a portion of a house protrudes onto the service road’s alignment, creating a severe accident hazard.
The Civil Engineering department of TKM College of Engineering will be conducting the inspection. The committee has been directed to submit a comprehensive report detailing how the road layout should be modified and how much additional land needs to be acquired. This report will subsequently be submitted to the revenue authorities. Additionally, a request will be put forward urging the State government to bear the financial costs if extra land acquisition becomes necessary.
The meeting also resolved to temporarily relocate electric poles that are currently obstructing ongoing construction work. Furthermore, it was decided to put the construction of drains in the area on hold until a permanent solution to these issues is finalised. During the meeting, Kerala Rail Development Corporation Limited Deputy general manager Surendran V.R. and senior section engineer Rajendran briefed the officials on the bridge’s construction progress.
