MOSCOW, October 19. /TASS/. Moscow and Tehran reaffirmed their mutual interest in invigorating joint efforts within BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the United Nations, the Russian Foreign Ministry said after Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Iran.
During his working visit to Tehran, the top Russian diplomat was received by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and met with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei.
"Both sides expressed a mutual interest in intensifying joint efforts in multilateral formats - the United Nations, BRICS, the SCO, and the EAEU," the ministry said.
"The sides noted with satisfaction the intensive nature of the political dialogue and the close cooperation at the governmental and sectoral levels, as well as between parliaments, regions, and the business community," it stated. "Attention was given to issues related to expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation, including the implementation of joint transport, logistics, and energy projects."
The current bilateral agenda was addressed in the traditionally constructive atmosphere with a focus on strengthening comprehensive strategic partnership in light of agreements reached by Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Masoud Pezeshkian on Iran on the sidelines of the recent events in Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.
"The [Russian minister’s] visit to Tehran marked a continuation of the substantive political dialogue and made it possible to outline practical steps for the further development of bilateral relations and foreign policy cooperation between Russia and Iran," the ministry added.
