Bills’ perfect Riq Woolen trade offer to Eagles before NFL trade deadline appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Buffalo Bills should offer the Philadelphia Eagles a 2027 fourth-round pick for Riq Woolen before the November 10 NFL trade deadline. Buffalo needs help in coverage, and the veteran cornerback offers a realistic way to improve the secondary without sacrificing an early selection.
The fit deserves serious attention. Buffalo has championship ambitions, while Philadelphia must consider whether an expiring contract can become useful draft capital.
Why Woolen would help Buffalo’s struggling defense
The Bills rank 28th in defensive EPA per dropback making them one of the league’s worst pass defenes.

Woolen would not fix every problem. Linebacker positioning, safety communication and the pass rush would still require attention. However, adding another capable outside corner could reduce the number of vulnerable matchups opponents can target.
At 6-foot-4, Woolen brings unusual length to the boundary. That gives him the physical tools to challenge outside receivers, disrupt throwing windows and contest passes that smaller defenders might struggle to reach.
He also offers experience rather than an extended development project. Woolen started 59 career games through Week 6, including all six appearances for Philadelphia this season. He has recorded 24 tackles, four passes defended and a forced fumble in 2026.
His interception total is zero, but Buffalo should evaluate more than takeaways. Reliable coverage can force quarterbacks away from their first read, buy time for rushers and make third downs harder to convert.
There is a transition risk. Woolen would need to learn Buffalo’s terminology and develop communication with its safeties. Coaches should begin with clearly defined responsibilities rather than expecting an immediate solution to every coverage call.
Why Philadelphia should consider moving Woolen
The Eagles signed Woolen to a one-year deal worth up to $15 million, making him a potential free agent after the season. That short commitment creates a legitimate deadline decision if Philadelphia remains outside the playoff picture.
Keeping him would preserve a starting corner opposite Quinyon Mitchell. Trading him would weaken that pairing and place greater responsibility on the remaining secondary. The Eagles should not pretend the move would improve their immediate defense.
The argument is about timing. If the front office concludes that this season requires a reset, a guaranteed fourth-round pick provides a tangible return for a player it might struggle to retain.
Waiting for possible compensatory draft value would offer less certainty. That outcome depends on future contract activity, while a negotiated selection becomes an asset Philadelphia can plan around immediately.
The fourth-round offer that balances both sides
Buffalo should present a straightforward package:
Bills receive:
- CB Riq Woolen
Eagles receive:
- Buffalo’s 2027 fourth-round draft pick
A fourth-round selection would acknowledge Woolen’s starting experience without pricing him like a long-term cornerstone. A published trade proposal has already identified that compensation as a plausible framework.
For Buffalo, the return is immediate defensive help during a championship pursuit. For Philadelphia, it is another opportunity to add an inexpensive contributor or build a future trade package.
The Bills should avoid a bidding war that pushes the price into premium territory. Woolen is a promising rental, not a guaranteed defensive cure. At this cost, however, Buffalo would be making a measured investment in its most pressing weakness.
