Netflix is revisiting the tragic case of Natalee Holloway, an 18-year-old who vanished on a high school graduation trip to Aruba in 2005.
The three-part documentary Taken: Natalee Holloway released its first trailer (below). The project, from Story Syndicate (Titan: The OceanGate Disaster) and directors Dani Sloane and Matthew Galkin, is described as “the definitive account of a case that gripped a nation.”
“Growing up in the mid-2000s, it was impossible to turn on the TV or walk by a newsstand without seeing Natalee Holloway’s face,” Sloane said. “But, beyond the wall-to-wall coverage and sensational headlines, is a story about the incredible courage, devotion, and strength that Natalee’s mother, Beth, showed in the face of unimaginable loss. For me, as a mother and filmmaker, Beth’s steadfastness and dedication to her daughter is nothing short of inspiring, and I’m so proud to be able to share her story.”
From the official description: “On May 30, 2005, 18-year-old Natalee Holloway vanished on a high school graduation trip to Aruba — and never came home. What followed was years of unanswered questions, a missing teenager, and a mother’s relentless fight for the truth. Now, over 20 years later, Natalee’s mother, Beth, is ready to tell the complete story — with exclusive, unprecedented access to Beth and those who were with Natalee when she vanished … This is Natalee’s story, told at last in full.”
In 2023, Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch man who was the last person seen with Holloway before her disappearance, confessed to killing her.
Taken: Natalee Holloway is released on Netflix on Nov. 4.
