The Carolina Panthers brought in a couple of defensive backs for a look on Wednesday.
Per the league transaction wire, the team worked out safeties Dan Jackson and Xavier Williams.
Jackson, a Gainesville, Ga. native, was a two-time national champion and a third-team All-SEC selection at the University of Georgia. He played in 47 games for the Bulldogs between 2021 and 2024—amassing 140 combined tackles (4.5 for a loss), four interceptions, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
The Detroit Lions would select Jackson with the 230th overall selection of the 2025 NFL Draft, which was one of the two picks Carolina received from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for wide receiver Robbie Anderson in 2022. That pick would be traded twice more during the 2025 draft—by the Panthers and then the Denver Broncos—before making its way to Detroit.
Williams—an undrafted rookie who split his collegiate career between Charlotte, Central Florida and Middle Tennessee State—spent part of the summer with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
