ICC President meets Belgian Government Officials
On 22 October 2026, the President of the International Criminal Court, Judge Tomoko Akane, visited Brussels to meet H.E. Mr Maxime Prévot, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation of Belgium, and H.E. Ms Annelies Verlinden, Minister of Justice of Belgium. The President discussed the Court’s activities, sanctions and other coercive measures against the Court and its personnel, as well as other matters of mutual concern.
Following the meeting, President Akane said, “It was truly an honour to be received by Minister Prévot and Minister Verlinden at the Egmont Palace today. Belgium’s support has been consistent and unwavering, both in relation to proceedings before the Court as well as with respect to the current challenges that the ICC faces. I am extremely grateful for this support and for the frank and constructive discussions that I am able to have with my distinguished colleagues from Belgium. At a time when the Court faces attempts to interfere with its independence, it is the unwavering support of Belgium and other States Parties that allows the Court to continue carrying out its mandate undeterred. I look forward to continuing to work together with Belgium to fight for our common cause.”
