A 33,000-litre tanker conveying petroleum products fell and caught fire on Otedola Bridge, Lagos, on Monday, prompting an emergency response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
The incident reportedly occurred between the inward and outward sections of the bridge, triggering a fire outbreak and raising concerns over the safety of motorists and possible property damage.
The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, confirmed the incident saying that the Agency would make public the extent of property damaged as a result of the fire outbreak.
She said the Service received a distress call at 4:09pm and immediately mobilised firefighters from its Alausa and Ikeja stations to the scene.

However, the circumstances surrounding the tanker’s fall and the extent of any property damage remain subject to verification.
Adeseye said damping-down operations were ongoing to eliminate residual hotspots and prevent a possible re-ignition.
“Details regarding the cause of the incident, casualties and property damage would be communicated as verified information became available,” she added.
The Controller General reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt and effective emergency response.
She urged motorists to exercise caution around emergency scenes and comply with safety instructions issued by emergency responders.
