NVIDIA’s new RTX Spark N1X platform has demonstrated a significant performance lead over Apple’s M5 Pro silicon in independent local AI agent testing, marking a shift in the competitive landscape for on-device inference hardware. The RTX Spark N1X laptop, which saw a worldwide release on October 16, 2026, was evaluated against the 14-inch MacBook Pro (M5 Pro, 64 GB) in the AA-AgentPerf-Local leaderboard . In the testing, the RTX Spark N1X completed the Qwen 3.8 27B agent replay workload in 18.7 minutes. By comparison, the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and 64 GB of unified memory required 37.6 minutes to finish the same task, making the RTX Spark N1X approximately 2.0 times faster.
Understanding Agent Replay
The AgentPerf-local benchmark provides a standardized method for measuring end-to-end completion time for AI agents. It functions by replaying recorded AI agent inference traces, which consist of 8 distinct tasks and 168 model turns, with context windows growing to approximately 56,000 tokens. To ensure the benchmark isolates inference speed, tool execution delays are skipped by default. This methodology allows for a direct comparison of how different hardware architectures handle the sustained, multi-turn reasoning required by modern AI agents.
Hardware Specifications and Availability
The RTX Spark N1X is built for high-performance local AI tasks. According to the Artificial Analysis leaderboard data , the N1X platform features a 20-core CPU and a 6,144-core GPU. The platform utilizes up to 128 GB of unified LPDDR5X memory with approximately 300 GB/s of bandwidth, comparable to the 307 GB/s offered by the M5 Pro. NVIDIA has positioned the RTX Spark platform as a “Local AI first” solution, specifically targeting personal agents running on Windows PCs. As noted in the NVIDIA developer blog on October 16, the hardware is currently available in laptops from partners including ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Microsoft. Compact desktop form factors for the RTX Spark N1X are expected to arrive in November.
Broader Ecosystem Context
This benchmark arrives as NVIDIA continues to expand its agentic infrastructure. The company is currently advancing its OpenShell Reference Architecture (Post 132613) and Kumo (Post 132637) frameworks to support enterprise data reasoning. During the GTC Berlin keynote on October 21, 2026, CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the convergence of capability and safety, noting that “agents can think on Rubin, act on Vera and be governed on BlueField.” These developments, alongside the Nemotron Berlin announcements (Post 132595), highlight a strategic push to integrate agent enforcement directly into the silicon.
Market Positioning and Company-Reported Figures
Beyond the Artificial Analysis results, NVIDIA has provided its own performance metrics to illustrate the platform’s capabilities. In company-reported measurements published in the October 16 developer blog, NVIDIA claims a 4.6 times speedup for local coding agents on the RTX Spark N1X when compared to the Intel Core Ultra X9 388H on the same AgentPerf-local benchmark. These figures, while distinct from the third-party Artificial Analysis data, underscore the company’s focus on establishing the RTX Spark N1X as a primary hardware choice for developers and enterprise users prioritizing local, agent-based AI workflows.
